A Gift of Wellness: Muse Headband
Hyperarousal is a primary symptom of Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). It occurs when a person’s body suddenly kicks into high alert as a result of thinking about their trauma. Even though real danger may not be present, their body acts as if it is, causing lasting stress after a traumatic experience. Diversified Rehabilitation Group’s clinician utilize a variety of evidence-based treatment modalities to treat PTSD.
In addition to commonly used PTSD treatment practices, each client who attends our Traumatic Stress Recovery Program (TSRP) receives a gift of wellness in the form of a Muse Headband that they continue to utilize after finishing the program. Moreover, the Muse Headband can be shared with family members while having their personal app login.
The Muse Headband is a remarkable technological advancement over versions of EEG Neurofeedback technology. Neurofeedback is a technique that has been employed for Mental Health conditions for more than a decade.
The Muse measures brain signals and gives users real-time feedback about their brain activity while they meditate. The headband connects via Bluetooth to a companion application that translates data into sound—when the headband detects that your brain is calm, the app plays audio of calm winds; when your brain is active, the wind becomes more turbulent. An app tracks users’ progress with graphs and charts and suggests ways to improve practice over time. The Muse helps individuals accomplish feeling of calm and increases the ability to manage stress.
Many of our clients find that the Muse is another valuable tool in our TSRP that enhances their journey to healing and recovery. They are grateful to be a part of a program that primarily focuses on treating trauma symptoms and injuries while providing comprehensive and integrated treatment tools, as well as a variety of effective coping strategies.
